Tom Jones on the way to being oldest artist with a #1 record

Jones is honoured to be top of the pops.

Legendary 70-year-old singer Tom Jones, the  must be pinching himself. His album, Praise & Blame, which came out this week, is on track to dethrone Eminem’s Recovery at the top of UK charts. That would make him the oldest artist ever to hold that rank in the land of Queen Elizabeth II.

Visibly pleased by first reports of sales, Jones could break the record he made when his album Loaded, which he released at the age of 60, made it to #1.

Since then, Bob Dylan’s Modern Times, released when the singer was 67, has broken this record.

To establish this new record, Praise & Blame will have to survive on Saturday, the day young people often go shopping for records. However, Jones is relishing the moment.

"I couldn’t be more proud of this album and I’m really blown away by the response from everyone" said Sir Tom Jones. "It’s great to be top of the charts with Eminem, maybe next time we could be top together"
