Actor Will Smith’s next project is looking like a biblical tale with a twist. He has signed on to star in and produce the film The Legend of Cain. It is a modern look at the epic Bible story about two rival brothers, Cain and Abel.
Deadline reports Overbrook Entertainment will produce the film. That is the production and entertainment company Smith started more than 10 years ago with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, and Ken Stovitz. The company has a string of Will Smith hits to its credit, including Ali, I, Robot, I Am Legend and Hancock.
There is no studio or director associated with the film at this time. But there is word that the script was written by Caleeb Pinkett (Smith’s brother-in-law) and Dan Knauf and Andrea Berloff is working on the final draft.
Will Smith is still promoting his company’s latest hit film overseas. The Karate Kid has grossed more than $210 million so far. After that, the movie star begins work on Men In Black 3 in August.
