Turned on by David Bowie

A tribute album to the iconic singer is about to be released.

Does the world need another tribute album? In this case, yes, yes it does.

An official release explained how this particular goody came into being: "What began as a vague idea of fresh and seasoned artists paying homage to the man who invented the art of reinvention, David Bowie."

The result is We Were So Turned On: A Tribute To David Bowie. This 2-CD compilation will be released around the world in September.

In the works since 2008, the tribute has 34 songs performed by a variety of artists. Some artists of note include Duran Duran, ex-Slits Viv Albertine and legendary avant-garde bassist/musician Mick Karn. Not to mention French First Lady Carla Bruni, Devendra Banhart and Vivian Girls.

The release promises: "With a final tracklisting that is as diverse as it is chameleon-like, just like the thin-white duke himself, We Were So Turned On has something for every Bowie lover."

All proceeds of this tribute album will go to the War Child charity which works with children all over the world to reduce poverty.
