Jay-Z and Sade do it for kids

Big names slated to perform at Alicia Keys’ annual charity ball.

Every fall, the Black Ball is hosted by Keep a Child Alive in NYC. The organization was co-founded by Alicia Keys and this year it is being held at the Hammerstein Ballroom on September 30.

Alicia Keys announced yesterday (July 14) that a few big names will join her on stage at the charity event. Rap kingpin Jay-Z and international pop star Sade agreed to perform.

"Sade? Jay-Z? Both icons and both major influences of mine. I am overwhelmed by their generosity in helping us continue the tradition of making the Black Ball the best fundraiser in NYC," Keys said in a statement. "There are more surprises coming up! Stay tuned!"

The charity’s website explains the mission: "Keep a Child Alive’s (KCA) Black Ball brings celebrity and philanthropy together to fulfill hopes, dreams and raise funds for children and families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India."

Keep a Child Alive also hosted a Black Ball earlier this year in London. It was co-hosted by Alicia Keys and Thandie Newton and featured performances by Keys, Bryan Ferry and Kasabian.
