A blood test to detect Alzheimer’s

A simple blood test could detect Alzheimer’s disease 10 years before its appearance.

Alzheimer’s disease could soon be detected by a simple blood test.

A team of British researchers led by Professor Madhav Thambisetty at King’s College London says that a blood test could diagnose the disease 10 years before the first signs appear.

The telltale sign indicating that the disease could occur is a high concentration of clusterin protein in the blood.

According to the Archives of General Psychiatry, early diagnosis means patients begin treatment much sooner which reduces the devastating effects of the disease.

Last March, researchers from Laval University developed a technique which allowed magnetic resonance to detect early signs of Alzheimer’s.

In Canada, an estimated 620,000 people suffer from this disease and that figure will double over the next ten years.
