Paul McCartney surprises Ringo

The former Beatle shows up to wish his former bandmate a happy birthday.

It’s hard to believe Ringo Starr turned 70 yesterday (July 7). He celebrated in style by throwing a birthday party concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Rolling Stone reported there was a who’s who of musicians and friends in attendance, including Yoko Ono, Joe Walsh, Steve Van Zandt, Brian Johnson, Jeff Lynne, Nils Lofgren, Max Weinberg and Foreigner’s Mick Jones.

What party would be complete without a rendition of With A Little Help From My Friends? Of course Ringo invited some friends to join him on stage.

What birthday party would be complete without a cake and candles to blow out? As you can imagine, it was a rather large cake to accommodate 70 flaming candles.

Just when concertgoers thought the gala was over, a stage hand walks out with Paul McCartney’s Hofner bass. He needed no further introduction. The spry 68-year old bounded on stage and performed the song Birthday for his old buddy.

Now that’s a rockin’ party to remember…
