No hope for a new Van Halen record anytime soon

Band spokeswoman refutes rumours of new album.

Since Van Halen’s last tour in 2007-2008, and with David Lee Roth behind the mic once again, many fans were hoping against hope for a new album that would hearken back to the band’s roots-even though the original bassist, Marc Anthony, has been replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang.

However, rumours that the California group will soon have a new record on racks has been refuted by their female guitarist, Janie Van Halen (she’s also their spokeswoman) in an interview with Rolling Stone.

"What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don’t have any updates at this time,"said Van Halen.

According to Van Halen, there are two main reasons for the delay in releasing new material. Firstly, her husband underwent a delicate operation on his left hand last year to repair damaged tendons—his rehabilitation has taken six months already, and may take longer.

Secondly, Eddie Van Halen was adamant that his son Wolfgang (his mother is Van Halen’s ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli) finish his high school before starting any studio work with the band.

However, in an interview with Rolling Stone in February 2009, Eddie Van Halen said he has a ton of material on hand for a new record.
