Justin Bieber’s mentor makes a surprise visit

Usher joined his protégé on stage during the first stop on his first ever tour.

Canadian Justin Bieber’s rise to fame took place over a ridiculously short period of time. The 16-year old singer is now known around the world and has spawned a new form of Beatlemania, dubbed "Bieber fever."

He has travelled the globe promoting two releases, the EP My World and the follow-up album My World 2.0. During this time, the emerging superstar has racked up hit singles like Baby and Somebody to Love.

It doesn’t hurt when one of the biggest names in R&B is your mentor. Usher beat out Justin Timberlake to sign the young talent to his record label.

The My World tour is Justin Bieber’s chance to bring his music to the fans on a larger scale. The tour stopped last night (June 27) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Bieber frequently posts messages on Twitter. He opened up about the butterflies he was feeling: "First tour ever. Little nervous. Don’t want to let u guys down… (Support act) Sean Kingston is on stage now!! Hartford is crazy… it’s almost that time. Wow."

Justin Bieber and fans got a pleasant surprise while he was performing the last song of the night. Toward the end of the Baby, Usher bounded on stage to surprise his protégé. He only stayed a minute before heading backstage.

The young star summed up the night: "2nite was just… well… I was scared. Didn’t want to let anyone down but the energy and the fans were incredible. Can’t wait to do this again!
