Brandon Flowers flies solo

The Killers lead singer will release his debut solo effort in September.

Island Records announced flamboyant frontman Brandon Flowers will launch Flamingo on September 14.

The Killers has been on an indefinite hiatus since the band wrapped up a world tour earlier this year. A news release about the singer’s solo project calls the hiatus "a well-earned sabbatical after seven straight years of hard work."

Canadian bigwig Daniel Lanois produced this solo album along with Stuart Price and Brendan O’Brien. The release describes what kind of album to expect in September. It says:  "Flamingo is a brilliant collection from an artist whose voice and songwriting prowess have left an indelible mark on the music world."

Brandon Flowers calls Las Vegas home. Island Records says: "Inextricably tied to Vegas in both showmanship and ideology, Flamingo is packed full of sparkling, stadium-ready songs that run the gamut from expert pop executions and forlorn electro dirges to gospel tunes and even blues-tinged rock."

Another Las Vegas native, Jenny Lewis, sings back-up vocals for Flowers.

The album’s first single, Crossfire, has already been released. Fans can have a listen by visiting the Brandon Flowers official website, catching it on the radio, or buying it outright from iTunes.
