Autopsy reveals it was an unfortunate accident

Slipknot bassist Paul Gray died from an accidental overdose.

According to a report in the Daily News, police announced the results of an autopsy performed on the body of Paul Gray. It revealed the Slipknot co-founder and bassist died of an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, a synthetic morphine substitute.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Dave Disney commented: "There is no evidence that a doctor prescribed either one of those substances."

Paul Gray was only 38 years old when he died on May 25. His lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room outside of Des Moines, Iowa by an unsuspecting employee. A needle and some pills were also found in the room.

The autopsy indicated that he showed signs of advanced heart disease as well.

Roadrunner Records declined to comment on this latest news. The band was scheduled to hit the road to promote a new album but that plan has been nixed.

Papa Roach lead singer Jacoby Shaddix shared his thoughts about Gray’s death. He said: "Paul Gray was an awesome person on and off stage. He will be missed by many including myself. His spirit will live on through the killer music he wrote."

One of the saddest twists to this story is that Paul Gray’s wife, Brenna Gray, is pregnant with their first child. She shared her grief at a news conference, saying: "Paul was my husband. He was an amazing person and I just want people to remember him for just that, and his daughter will remember him for the way he was."
