Leonard Cohen will release a new album next year

The Montrealer decides to put off retiring.

The news is somewhat surprising considering the artist was hospitalized earlier this year. He also mentioned during a  2009 concert in New York that he might retire. But it’s good news for Leonard Cohen fans today. The word is that a new album will be released, probably next year.

His last album, Dear Heather, was released in 2004. He was recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and at the ceremony he shared that the new album contains 10 or 11 songs. He added that one of them was written on his 2008 world tour.

He said, "God-willing it will be finished next spring."

Leonard Cohen is often regarded as one of the most gifted songwriters-composers-performers whose poetry is unequalled. He also commented that several of the songs on his upcoming album were written in the years preceding his last tour.

In 2006, the artist published a book of poetry illustrated with his own drawings and it has been a real success in bookstores.
