Smashing Pumpkins headline Sunset Strip Music Festival

The rat in its cage plans a big return to the spotlight.

Billy Corgan breathed new life into the Smashing Pumpkins recently in order to release the album Teargarden Kaleidyscope in an unusual way. He decided to release it track by track, all 44 songs. Now there’s word that the Chicago band will headline the Sunset Strip Music Festival. It takes place over the weekend of August 26 to 28.

The Smashing Pumpkins will perform on the last night of the event, August 28, and take the party to the streets of West Hollywood where the main stage will be set up.

Frontman Billy Corgan is the only remaining member of the original group that dominated the alt scene in the 1990s. Since reviving the band, he has recruited guitarist Jeff Schroeder, young drummer Mike Byrne and, most recently, bassist Nicole Fiorentino, keeping with the tradition of having a woman play bass.

The Sunset Strip Music Festival will honour guitarist Slash this year. The legendary musician went through both good times and bad with his former band, Guns N’ Roses. He is now going solo and has a newly released eponymous album that is working its way up the charts.
