BET Awards will pay tribute to Prince

The legendary artist will receive a lifetime achievement award.

Prince is one of the most interesting musicians of the past few decades. His body of work will be honoured at the BET Awards on June 27 when he receives a lifetime achievement award.

BET president of programming, Stephen G. Hill commented: "Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music. (The tribute will reflect his) unique style."

Born Prince Rogers Nelson in 1952 to musician parents, Prince has released no fewer than 32 albums over the course of his career. He has 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles to date. He really is one of the most prolific singer-songwriters of his generation.

He has sold more than 100 million albums over his career which is nowhere close to being over. He released the triple album LotUSFLOW3R last year. He is said to have hundreds of unpublished songs sitting in his vault.

Prince will receive a lifetime achievement award at the BET Awards which will also mark its 10th anniversary. The award has been given to some big names in the past, including  Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, James Brown and Gladys Knight.

Queen Latifah is hosting the event which will also feature a performance from Kanye West.
