Another solo album takes root for Robert Plant

The Led Zeppelin singer will try to match the success of Raising Sand.

He has one of rock and roll’s most powerful and recognizable voices from the 1970s when he was the frontman for internationally renowned group Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant is still making his voice heard and continues to make music. He plans to launch a new solo album in the fall. It’s a follow up to the incredibly successful Raising Sand, an album released in 2007 that he made with country singer with Allison Kraus.

The duo picked up no fewer than five Grammy Awards including the coveted Song of the Year award for Please Read the Letter and Album of the Year for Raising Sand.

The next album will be called Band of Joy and marks a return to a much more bluesy sound. It’s a style Plant holds dear and which he repeatedly used during Led Zeppelin’s heyday. His album with Allison Kraus was much more country.

The album will be released on September 13. It was recorded in Nashville with guitarist Buddy Miller and features music by Los Lobos and Low.

Robert Plant commented on the new album to NME. He said: Buddy’s integral to this album, you can hear his taste all over the instrumentation. Buddy’s zone is beautiful, with a lot of reflections going back into mid-’50s rockabilly, the singing fishermen and all the great country stuff, along with the soul and R&B from Memphis."
