A fifth of mothers have trouble at work

One future or young mother in five faces certain obstacles in the workplace.

Even today, some employers are prejudiced against women who are pregnant or plan to have a child. According to a Dutch study, one fifth of pregnant or young mothers said they had difficulties at work.

Researchers at Hasselt University in the Netherlands interviewed 600 women, the Belgian daily Le soir reports. 60% of respondents believe they missed a promotion or a raise because of their pregnancy.

Balancing work and family is never easy for new mothers or those planning a pregnancy. So it is discouraging for them to see that they are excluded from some opportunities for advancement because of their desire to start a family.

In addition, a disturbing fact was revealed by that study. 60% of employers do not know if the working conditions they offer are safe for pregnant women and their unborn child.
