Smashing Pumpkins in an intimate setting

This is a rare chance for fans to catch the group in a smaller venue.

The Smashing Pumpkins carved their way back into the spotlight with the ambitious project of releasing 44 songs for free, one track at a time. The 44 songs are on the album Teargarden By Kaleidyscope.

A bit like Courtney Love and Hole, Billy Corgan proves that the Smashing Pumpkins is truly his baby. The music stays the same even though some of the players change.

The Pumpkins now announce a series of 14 concerts in the United States. Every show will be in a small venue, much like where the group started before it became one of the biggest alt rock names in the world during the 1990s.

Starting July 6 and ending July 24 in Memphis, this intimate tour will give the band a chance to prepare for some major festivals appearances in Japan. It will also allow them to take some musical risks that are not always possible in a larger setting.

In an interview, Billy Corgan said that the Smashing Pumpkins are sounding more now like the first two albums, Gish and Siamese Dream. Back then the music had a tendency to go more psychedelic and electric as compared to their more commercial phase.
