The pregnancy rate among Canadian teens shows an important drop compared to the United States, Britain and Sweden.

Canadian teens are getting pregnant less and less. According to experts, this reflects a generation that is better informed about sex and which makes smarter choices. Girls these days also have other ideas about their future than motherhood.

Between 1996 and 2006, the rate of pregnancy among Canadian teenagers dropped by 36.9%. In the U.S., it decreased by 25%. In England, there was a decrease of 4.7%, but there was an increase of 19.1% in Sweden, according to information received by the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada (SIECCAN).

In Canada, the birth rate among teenagers dropped 38%, while the rate of pregnant teens who wanted an abortion declined from 35.7%.

Canada is the country with the fastest decrease of pregnancies among young girls.
