The French Agency for the Safety of Health Products (AFSSAPS) issued new recommendations for the use of cosmetic products for children under three years. In addition, the agency questioned the toxicity of ingredients in these products.
Gel cleaners, lotions, creams and cleansing wipes are extremely popular with parents. In some maternity wards, samples are even distributed free and this is the subject of a debate in Europe.
AFSSAPS will address the issue of personal hygiene for toddlers with professionals in the near future, but meanwhile it recommends not using these products, especially on the skin of premature babies. Their skin is too permeable and their metabolism cannot fully handle the products that are used on them.
