Low cancer risk associated with cell phone use

There is a low risk of developing brain cancer through cell phone use.

The results of the largest study on cell phone use and the potential risk of brain cancer have been unveiled in the International Journal of Epidermiology.

According to the Interphone study, there is no clear link between cell phone use and development of brain cancer.

But for heavy users (900 hours a month) there is a 40% increased risk of glioma and a 15% higher risk for meningioma. Usually, the tumour is also found on the same side of the head that the phone is held.

Study author Elizabeth Cardis notes: "The study does not reveal an increased risk, but we cannot conclude that there is no risk because there are enough findings that suggest a possible risk."

More study is needed on the subject.

Cell phones have become extremely popular, especially among young people, since the beginning of the Interphone study in 2000. But it is also true that emissions are lower because there is an increase in text messaging and the use of hands-free devices.
