Elton John pays tribute to Vanessa Redgrave

Elton John highlights Vanessa Redgrave’s courage as he dedicates a song to her during a benefit concert.

Singer Elton John offered his support to Vanessa Redgrave who lost her daughter, brother and sister this past year. Orange News reports he dedicated a song to her during a benefit concert last week in New York.

Over the last year, the 73-year old star has experienced several personal tragedies, starting when her daughter, Natasha Richardson, died following a freak ski accident last year in Quebec. Then her brother, Corin, passed away in April and her sister, Lynn, lost her battle with cancer this month.

Despite her immense grief, Redgrave offered her support for the annual benefit concert that Sting organizes to raise funds for the Amazon rainforest.

Elton John decided to show his appreciation for the actress’ involvement by dedicating a song. Before he performed I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues, Elton John told the crowd: "She’s had a hell of a year. Vanessa, this is to you with love from me and all the artists on the stage."

Elton John also sang a few songs with Lady Gaga, who made a surprise appearance at the event. They sang Gaga’s Speechless and moved on to John’s crowd favourite Your Song.
