Madonna heads back to Malawi

Madonna is visiting Malawi to check on the various projects she is supporting.

Singer Madonna returned to Malawi to lay the first brick at her girl’s academy in the village of Chinkhota. She is also launching a new education campaign using mobile technology.

The Queen of Pop writes on the Raising Malawi website: "It is with tremendous joy that I return to Malawi to lay the first brick in the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. By educating girls we will rebuild this community and raise this nation."

The superstar will also visit the Millenium Village, a project supported by the United Nations to fight poverty. She is joined today (April 6) by economist Jeffrey Sachs and Hans Vestberg, CEO of telecommunications company Ericsson, as she officially launches an education campaign.

Madonna says, "I look forward to seeing the amazing progress being made in that community as well as several other projects that are currently underway including the creation of a Girl’s Academy."
Madonna adopted a son, David Banda, from Malawi in 2006 and a daughter, Mercy James in 2009.
