After years of avoiding questions about his sexual orientation, Ricky Martin finally sets the record straight. People magazine reports the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer revealed he is gay in a touching online statement in Spanish and English.
The 38-year old singer published a letter yesterday (March 29) on his website RickyMartinMusic.com: "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am."
Martin says that his 2-year old twins inspired him to be honest about himself.
He writes, "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed."
In December 2008, after the birth of his twin boys, Martin said that fatherhood had completely changed his life for the better.
He shares, "Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life."
Following Martin’s public declaration, The Gay, Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued a statement offering its support for the singer.
