The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Angelina Jolie could sign on to play the lead role in Maleficent.
Tim Burton is rumoured to be directing Maleficent, a new live action version of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale told from the point of view of the Maleficent. This is the wicked witch who casts the original spell on Sleeping Beauty
Angelina Jolie is currently working with one of Tim Burton’s favourite actors, Johnny Depp. They are shooting The Tourist. She is in talks to play the villainous lead role in this new film but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
There was news last week that Disney hired its longtime collaborator Linda Woolverton (Alice in Wonderland, Mulan, The Lion King) to write the screenplay for Maleficent. The film will not hit screens before 2013.
In the meantime, Angelina Jolie stars in Salt opening in theatres on July 23. Her film The Tourist co-starring Johnny Depp will hit theatres next year.
