Robert Plant goes back to his roots

Robert Plant revives The Band of Joy after 42 years.

The Band of Joy is rising from the ashes after 42 years of inactivity. This was Robert Plant’s group before he joined Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham.

Robert Plant revealed this news as he announced a 12-concert mini-tour of the United States before the release of a new album towards the end of the summer or beginning of autumn.

Sorta like Courtney Love did when she put Hole back together, Robert Plant is the only original member of the group. The face of The Band of Joy now in 2010 bears no resemblance to the group that Plant formed in 1968. John Bonham was part of that group with Robert Plant and followed the singer to Led Zeppelin. Bonham died in 1980 at age 32.

The new band members include Patsy Griffin, Darrell Scott, Byron House, Marco Giovino and Buddy Miller. They are mainly country and bluegrass musicians, a style that Plant particularly loves.
