New album in the works for Tragically Hip singer

Gord Downie is releasing a third solo album.

Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie just announced the release of his next solo album with one sentence, "New album – June 8." No other information was offered. It might not be enough details for some but for some this is very good news.

Downie waited 18 years after founding the Tragically Hip to launch his first solo album, Coke Machine Glow, in 2001. His second solo effort, Battle of The Nudes, followed two years later in 2003.

He has not released any new solo albums since but has been focusing on the band which has released three albums since 2003.

The only thing we know for sure about the new album is its release date. One of the songs on the album will likely be The Hard Canadian, a song he performed with Gordon Lightfoot on February 4 in Toronto.

Gord Downie’s website mentions tour dates will soon be announced for the group he uses for personal projects, the Country of Miracles. The only tour information available now is that the band will perform at the Big Music Fest in Belleville, Ontario on June 19.

Other groups heading to Bay of Quinte country for this music festival are headliners ZZ Top along with Collective Soul, Finger Eleven, Big Sugar, Karl Wolf and Danny Fernandes.
