From crime thriller to family flick

Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley are cast in Martin Scorsese’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Martin Scorsese’s next film is an adaptation of a children’s book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Written in 2007 by Brian Selznick, the book won the Randolph Caldecott Medal in 2008. It tells the story of a 12-year old orphan boy who lives in a Paris train station. Sacha Baron Cohen will play the station inspector while Kingsley will play filmmaker Georges Melies.

Screenwriter John Logan (The Aviator) adapted this story for the big screen. Filming starts in London in May.

Martin Scorsese has a lot of projects on the go right now, including a biographical film on Frank Sinatra. Scorsese’s crime thriller film Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley is in theatres now. Kingsley also stars in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which opens on May 28.

Sacha Baron Cohen stars in the upcoming Accidentes and in a Sherlock Holmes comedy with Will Ferrell. No release date is available for either of these films.
