A k.d. lang retrospective album

k.d. lang’s new album takes a look back at her career.

Singer k.d. lang recently released the album Recollection under the Warner Music label. It brings together songs like Crying with Roy Orbinson, Constant Craving and Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.

It’s a retrospective album that celebrates this Canadian artist’s career that has spanned more than two decades.

The star, now aged 48, got her start on Edmonton’s music scene in the early 80s. She wowed audiences with her haunting rendition of Patsy Cline songs and her array of outrageous vintage store dresses.

She said, "I had a vision and it was just a matter of work, tenacity and persistence. No one prepares you for what you experience, but I was very sure I wanted to do this and I knew I could if I worked hard enough."

k.d. lang has had a successful career that includes 12 albums, four Grammy awards and eight Juno awards. She also received the Order of Canada.

She still returns to Edmonton to visit her mom. She shares some of her fond memories of the city. "I remember going around to the second-hand stores and finding the clothes. I remember walking along the river for hours and hours, just thinking about the music and the costumes. My days in Edmonton are very, very vivid."

Lang adds, "That was a really fun period — I think one of my most fond times. I was just so full of energy and ideas and creativity, and I was exploding with stuff. When I started making music, it was like I was freed from my cage."
