Portishead and Goldfrapp work together

A few members collaborate to write the score for a French film, The Passion of Joan of Arc.

Portishead and Goldfrapp’s sound has been influenced by a lot of film scores. They are two of the figureheads of the trip hop movement in the 90s. The band sometimes added samples in their own songs.

Now they have a chance to reciprocate. Adrian Utley from Portishead and Will Gregory from Goldfrapp wrote a new score for Carl Theodor Dreyer’s film The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne D’Arc).

This classic silent film made in 1928 is considered to be a cornerstone of French film culture. The film was banned in England at the time because it showed British soldiers mocking French martyrs.

Adrian Utley and Will Gregory will perform the score they’ve written in a live performance accompanying the film in Bristol, England on May 7.

Bristol is the English cradle of the trip hop movement. The special performance will feature the two musicians accompanied by six electric guitarists, drums and brass.
