New sound for Evanescence

Depeche Mode influences Evanescence’s next album.

Evanescence has been in the studio for over a week now recording their third album. They’re working with Steve Lillywhite this time around. He’s the producer who made U2’s War album nearly 30 years ago that introduced the Irish group to the world.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Amy Lee explained that the group has a new sound and will reveal another side of its personality.

The singer said, "A lot of bands I’ve always been inspired by are just coming into play a little more." She then went on to list Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Portishead, CSS and even La Roux as examples.

When asked about the music that will be on the new album, Amy Lee said, "There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t sound like Evanescence, but the heart of the band of still there. This is a really, really, rhythmically driven record. So there’s tons of drum-programming fused with live drums; drums we’re renting a day at a time, like Japanese taiko drums."

This album will be the first Evanescence release since The Open Door came out in 2006. No release date has been announced.
