Coco Perez reports that designer Tom Binns unveiled a 40-piece jewellery collection inspired by Tim Burton’s new film, Alice in Wonderland.
Binns talks about his inspiration. "I read the book and some articles on the psychology of the story and what Alice means as a character to adults and what she means as a character to children. It is totally different as a child’s imagination is something us adults used to have, but have forgotten."
The designer concentrated on certain characters for his jewellery collection, including the White Queen, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and the Cheshire Cat.
Binns explains how this story is filled with iconic images. He shares that it was easy for him to find symbols to represent the characters. He refers to the Mad Hatter’s hat and the watch that is an important point of reference in the film. He said he would have no problem creating 200 pieces for this collection.
A selection of pieces from this jewellery collection by Tom Binns will be available in the Wonder Room at Selfridge. There will also be a selection of the designer’s other creations inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
