Brittany Murphy Foundation on hold

The Brittany Murphy Foundation shuts down because it does not have charity status.

The Brittany Murphy Foundation website briefly ceased operations last weekend, reports Us magazine. It was reported that the group was not properly registered to operate as a charity.

The deceased actress’ mother, Sharon Murphy, and husband, Simon Monjack, are responsible for supervising the foundation. They were hit with a scandal when it was discovered that the company had yet to register with the IRS or state of California.

The foundation’s website has been collecting donations for arts education for children for the past month. It relaunched Sunday (February 14). A new message says it will no longer accept donations "until we have our non-profit status approved before proceeding to insure that we can truly honor Brittany’s charitable desires."

Brittany Murphy died suddenly on December 20 at age 32. A coroner ruled the death was accidental, caused by pneumonia.

Monjack said that Hollywood pressure was the root cause of his wife’s death.
