Daily News reports that actress Angelina Jolie gave her partner, Brad Pitt, a 200-year old olive tree worth $18,500 (US) for Valentine’s Day.
It will be planted on their $60 million estate in the south of France.
A source says, "Ange bought it from a nursery called The English Garden Centre in Valbonne, near their house. It’s a very special tree and cost her a fortune."
The olive tree is a symbol for peace. This gift will inevitably lead people to speculate that the two have been fighting, hence the extended olive branch.
On January 24, the British paper News of the World announced that the two actors were splitting up. The couple denied the report.
A lawyer for the couple, Keith Schilling, said that the allegations were totally untrue and intrusive. Jolie, Pitt and their lawyer asked the paper for a retraction and an apology. News of the World refused. So they decided to sue the paper for libel.
