Cruise signs on for Mission: Impossible 4

Tom Cruise has finally buried the hatchet with Paramount Pictures.

Variety reports that Tom Cruise has finally signed on to star in a fourth Mission: Impossible film.

Paramount Pictures and the actor have set their differences aside. The studio severed ties with Cruise four years ago after he made a number of controversial comments.

They are now looking for a director to relaunch the popular franchise. Josh Applebaum and André Nemec will take on scriptwriting duties, inspired by an idea proposed by Cruise and Abrams. The actor and Abrams  wrote the script for the third film and will be producers on the fourth.

Paramount Pictures plans to release Mission: Impossible 4 on May 27, 2011, the same day as The Hangover 2.

The first three films in this franchise have raked in $1.4 billion worldwide.

In the meantime, Tom Cruise can be seen starring alongside Cameron Diaz in the film Knight and Day out on July 2. These two actors have previously starred together in Vanilla Sky. The actor will work with Ben Stiller in the comedy The Hardy Men which is still being written.
