After Valentine’s Day comes New Year’s Eve

It seems Garry Marshall is making films with a holiday theme.

A few days before the release of Valentine’s Day, we learn its sequel is already in the works, this time centred around the New Year.

Director Garry Marshall is expected to work on the sequel. According to Deadline Hollywood, New Year’s Eve would feature some of the same actors from the film Valentine’s Day. Its star-studded cast included Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Shirley MacLaine, Emma Roberts, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift.

Valentine’s Day screenwriter Katherine Fugate has already submitted a first draft of the sequel’s script. The film would revolve around 24 hours in New York, between December 31 and January 1.

Producers Mike Karz, Wayne Allan Rice and Josie Rosen will also return for the sequel. They hope to get filming done by the end of the year for an end of 2011 release.

Some predict the franchise could be so popular that they are thinking even further into the future about Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

Valentine’s Day comes to theatres on Friday, February 12.
