Dave Matthews Band records for Haiti

The band is releasing a mini-album to contribute to the Haiti relief effort.

The Dave Matthews Band, nominated for Album of the Year at last night’s Grammy Awards, recorded a mini-album and will donate all proceeds to the relief effort in Haiti.

Reconstruction is already under way in the country, hit by an earthquake on January 12. The natural disaster killed nearly 200,000 people and almost one million people were left homeless.

In addition to participating in various efforts since the tragedy in Haiti, the Dave Matthews Band will release a 5-song album tomorrow called The Haiti Relief Project EP. The mini-album will only be available online at DMBlive.com.

Dave Matthews appeared on the Hope for Haiti Now telethon but didn’t think that was enough. He wants to raise more money with this new release. The Haiti Relief Project EP will include the songs Out of My Hands, Lying in the Hands of God and Dive In, all recorded during the band’s 2009 tour. There’s also a solo performance of Butterfly and a cover of Cry Freedom.

The Dave Matthews Band also contributed a song to the compilation album Download to Donate.
