Carrie Underwood will sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl

Carrie Underwood follows Jennifer Hudson in singing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl.

Another American Idol contestant gets the call to sing the national anthem before the start of the Super Bowl.

First Jordan Sparks in 2008, then Jennifer Hudson in 2009, now it’s Carrie Underwood’s turn. The winner of the 4th season of American Idol will sing the Star Spangled Banner before an audience of more than a billion TV viewers around the world.

Carrie Underwood’s turn at the mike will no doubt be drama free but that was not the case for Jennifer Hudson last year. The American Idol third season finalist has had one of the most interesting careers to date, winning an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls. Months before singing at the Super Bowl in 2009, her mother, brother and nephew were murdered. Singing the national anthem was the first public appearance the singer made after the triple murder.
