Lady Gaga gives $500,000 to Haiti

Singer Lady Gaga donated $500,000 (US) in concert proceeds to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

While appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show, Gaga revealed that she wanted to help earthquake victims in Haiti. She decided to donate all the ticket sale and merchandise proceeds from her January 24 concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York. She was also adding revenue generated from the sale of promotional items on her website.

In the next concert she performed after January 24, Lady Gaga told the crowd, "On ‘Gaga for Haiti‘ day, in just 24 hours, with very minimal marketing and planning, all the little monsters all over the world made over half a million dollars for Haiti relief."

Gaga said she was worried youth around the world did not know enough about what was happening in Haiti. The amount raised proves that her fans are aware of the situation and wanted to get involved.

Lady Gaga is not the only artist selling items to raise money for Haiti. It was announced that Britney Spears has permission to sell the dress she wore to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and donate the funds to Haiti.
