Black Eyed Peas win… and lose

The Black Eyed Peas were mistakenly proclaimed the winner at the NRJ Awards.

For the second year in a row, a monumental error has embarrassed the organizers of the NRJ Awards, held Saturday (January 23) in Paris.

Singer Ke$ha, a rising star in the music biz, and French choreographer Kamel Ouali were on stage to present the award for Best International Group. They opened the envelope and announced the winner was the Black Eyed Peas, even though the award was really won by the German band Tokio Hotel.

The NRJ Awards faced the same situation last year when Katy Perry got up to accept the Best International Song award when the category’s real winner was Rihanna.

Last night, Ke$ha and Ouali watched as nobody came up to claim the award. There was confusion in the room and even some boos when the Black Eyed Peas were declared the winner since Tokio Hotel had been favoured to win.

Ouali returned to the mike moments later to apologize and explain that he had announced the wrong winner, that all the names were listed and he had simply called out the wrong one.
