The Jay Leno Show Gets the Axe

Jay Leno will no longer be hosting a prime time show.

After weeks of speculation, NBC Universal Entertainment president, Jeff Gaspin, confirmed yesterday (January 10) that February 12 will be the final airing of The Jay Leno Show.

However, Gaspin also revealed that the network wants to keep Leno for a show that will air one hour later, just before Conan O’Brien’s show, which is followed by a show hosted by Jimmy Fallon.  Gaspin pointed out that no official decision has been made yet.

The executive explained that The Jay Leno Show no longer corresponded to the needs of the network, but that Leno and O’Brien were both incredibly professional and understanding regarding the situation.

Talks will resume today (January 11), and Gaspin says that once an agreement is reached, both Leno and O’Brien will be able to reveal the details about their next project.
