Ricci is joining Pattinson, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas in the upcoming drama.
Theatre directors Declan Donellan and Nick Ormerod will be directing the film, which was inspired by a novel by French writer Guy de Maupassant. Rachel Bennette was given the task of writing the screenplay.
Bel Ami follows the story of Duroy (Pattinson), a young journalist who sleeps with several influential women of high-society Paris. As he finds his place among the privileged and rises up the social ladder, a wife of a friend who has several political connections gives him a helping hand. The woman, played by Uma Thurman, later becomes Duroy’s wife.
Thomas plays an upper class lady who falls for the charms of the young man and desperately tries to hang onto him. It is uncertain which role Ricci will play.
In the meantime, the Christina Ricci will star in the comedy Born to Be a Star, opening September 3, as well as Alpha and Omega, in theatres on October 10.
