Hanes Drops Charlie Sheen

Hanes announced that they have terminated their deal with Charlie Sheen.

After Sheen’s arrest for domestic violence, the underwear brand had to withdraw ads starring Sheen and basketball player Michael Jordan, reports People.

Advertisements for the Comfortsoft collection were set to air on January 1, but according to a spokesperson for the brand, the majority of the ads were pulled after Sheen’s arrest. He stated, "We suspended the commercials on Dec. 28. Some were seen on the 25th, 26th, 27th as we could not reach the networks over the holiday weekend."

Sheen’s contract with Hanes was set to terminate by midyear, and no other future ads are in the works.

The spokesman added, "We do have a print ad in some trade publications using Mr. Sheen that are scheduled to run this spring." He explained that the publication schedule could not be changed.

Sheen has been a model for Hanes for a year now, and Jordan has been a long-time spokesmodel for the company.

The actor was arrested in Aspen, Colorado on Christmas Day, following an altercation with wife Brooke Mueller. He was charged with second-degree assault, menacing and criminal activity. Mueller claimed that her husband threatened her with a knife, which he has since denied.

The Two and a Half Men star is expected to appear in court next month, and in the meantime, his twin sons are being cared for by their mother, who is now residing in Aspen.
