Three Major Museum Openings in Europe

London, Madrid and Berlin each have something new to offer visitors.

The three big European cities are opening new galleries this winter, with the added bonus of beautiful exhibitions to highlight their openings.

In the British capital of London, the Victoria & Albert Museum has opened no fewer than 10 new galleries, highlighting European culture spanning the years from 300 to 160 A.D.  In the various galleries, you can admire pieces of Gothic art, the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, including drawings, sketches and thoughts, and much more.

Visitors can also view reconstructions of buildings, such as the facade of an English house from the 1600s.  The museum will also feature several commercial objects that linked the United Kingdom with the rest of the world.

In Madrid, Spain, the Prado Museum and its new galleries will showcase the art of Titian, Velazquez, Goya and Rubens.  Some of their paintings are also hung in a reconstructed living space to increase their impact and allow us to get a sense of what it’s like to own one.  An impressive collection of sculptures from the Greek and Roman era until the 1900s is also on permanent display.

Berlin is presenting the third new gallery opening of the Neues Museum.  The project took more than 10 years and 250 million dollars to create.  It has the distinction of hosting one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian work, including the bust of Nefertiti.
