Soundgarden Is Back

More than 12 years after their split, Soundgarden is making their comeback.

Soundgarden, one of the biggest names of the 1990s music scene, announced that they will be reuniting.

Frontman Chris Cornell wrote on his Twitter page, "The 12-year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. The Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"

During 2009, certain events led to speculation of a return, beginning with a surprise performance by 3 of the 4 band members, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepard, in March. Though Cornell wasn’t there to join them, he admitted that if he were there, he would have joined his cronies on stage.

In a July interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Cornell revealed that the group was back in touch and working on a special B-Sides compilation album and unreleased songs. When the subject of a reunion was approached, he simply replied, "We never know."

It will be interesting to see how drummer Matt Cameron will manage to make the return, since he joined the likes of Pearl Jam one year after Soundgarden’s 1997 split.
