Hermès Delves Into Chinese Market

Hermès is getting ready to launch a new brand.

According to different sources, the brand Shang Xia by Hermès will soon be available in China, which will make it a first in the history of the French company.

It seems that the high-end label wants to expand into the Chinese market. Patrick Thomas, CEO of Hermès International, explained that Shang Xia, which in Mandarin means "topsy-turvy", will be an authentic brand using the materials and know-how of the Chinese culture.

The objective behind the venture is to offer more affordable products in the country, but also to enter the Chinese beauty industry, which is expected to soar to new heights in 2010.

In order to effectively launch the brand and retain credibility, Shang Xia will also be made available in Paris. Currently, negotiations are underway with a major retailer.

Hermès is an internationally-renowned fashion house that employs 4,000 individuals at no less than 250 points of sale.
