South America To Host 2010 Dakar

For the second consecutive year, the off-road rally known as the Paris-Dakar will be held in Argentina and Chile in 2010.

In the midst of festivities surrounding the bicentennial celebration of Chile and Argentina, organizers of the off-roading extravaganza have decided to make a comeback for the second consecutive year. The legendary race is set to kick off in the two South American countries.

The most recent race was first moved to the southern continent after rumours of terrorist attacks on the African racetracks were on the rise.

The event, which has simply been renamed the Dakar since its relocation, will once again host a fierce competition in the Argentinean and Chilean deserts in 2010, after last year’s run effectively proved that the race could be uprooted. From the beginning, there were heavy doubts that any other terrain could compare to that of the African deserts, just as if the Tour de France were to take place in the mountains of Russia.

With 2.9 million Web surfers who followed the race last year, not counting the influx of media and tourists who travelled to the site for the occasion, the 2010 Dakar, which begins on January 1 goes until January 17 in Buenos Aires, is here to stay.
