Julie Doiron Takes Over Canadian Campuses

Julie Doiron is top of the class across Canada’s campuses.

According to CHARTattack, Doiron’s album I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day charted #1 for 2009, knocking down Joel Paskett’s album Three, which came in at second place.  Following in third was the album Outside Love by Pink Mountaintops, a shoegaze group from Vancouver, most of whose members are in Black Mountain, a local collective. The top five listing, compiled by campus radio stations around the country, is rounded off by Fantasies by Metric in fourth place, and last but not least, Merriweather Post Pavillion from Animal Collective in fifth place.

It’s refreshing to see Doiron, a New Brunswick resident and soft-spoken mother of three, relating her message through song and having it resonate with many young people from coast to coast. Despite her 10-album discography, Doiron is still somewhat in the musical background. However, given the success of her latest album,  Doiron will be a name to watch out for in the future.
