According to People magazine, Cage is not being prosecuted for fraud. Sources report that attorneys representing a real estate firm are requesting 36.7 million US dollars from the actor.

The World Trade Center star, who claimed to be financially ruined after having been duped by his former accountant, is now being sued by Red Curb Investments for non-payment of loans totalling 3 million US dollars.

Red Curb is also trying to get their hands on the money, accusing Cage’s ex-accountant and a mortgage loans broker of having defrauded the real estate company by hiding the celebrity’s true financial position and not revealing his enormous amount of debt.

Marty Singer, the star’s attorney, explained, "Any claims that Nic Cage engaged in fraud or wrongful conduct is absurd and ridiculous."

This has been a busy year for the actor, who has been featured in several films such as Knowing, G-Force, The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call-New Orleans, as well as lending his voice for the role of Dr. Tenma in Astro Boy.
