Katherine Heigl Rescues 25 Dogs

Katherine Heigl couldn’t bear to see 25 dogs euthanized.

The actress saved 25 little Chihuahuas from being killed. The dogs were set to be euthanized, until the Grey’s Anatomy star learned of the situation and decided to help them find loving homes.

Through the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, founded by the actress and her mother, Heigl paid $25 000 for the dogs to be transported from Los Angeles to Boston.

Afterwards, the Chihuahuas were put up for adoption at the Humane Society for Greater Nashua and the Salem Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire.

"All 25 would have been euthanized if we didn’t take them. We’re just so happy to be saving their lives," Director Karen Bill of the Humane Society told People.

After the star and her partner Josh Kelley, adopted their daughter, Naleigh, from Korea in September, Katherine Heigl plans to slowly return to work. She is set to promote two films for 2010, Killers with Ashton Kutcher, which hits theatres on June 4, and Life as We Know It with Josh Duhamel, opening December 22.
