Turkish Resort Rated Best in Europe

The seaside region of Belek, Turkey, is a favourite destination among European travelers.

When we think about European seaside resorts, our first thoughts turn to places like southern Spain, with its many beaches and luxurious hotels. However, according to a recent survey carried out by Trivago, an Internet site that compares hotel rates, Belek is a popular vacation destination.

Of the 50 most-visited resorts in Europe identified in the survey, Belek beat out the rest by earning 80.31 points out of a possible 100. Its hotels won over those of the Binz region on the German island of Rugen (80.11), as well as those of Sorrento, Italy (79.86).

The Spanish hotels, typically considered luxury destinations, found themselves at the bottom of the list. The French resorts only earned average ratings.  Their best performer, the Biarritz, was ranked 21 on the survey.  Nice lagged far behind at the 47th spot, and only managed to outscore the last three Spanish destinations.

This ranking was based on tourists’ reviews following their stay at one of the 4000-plus establishments listed on the Trivago site. The total average of each region’s hotels was used to calculate the survey results.
