Radiohead Dominates the Decade

Radiohead released two of the three best albums of the decade, according to The Times.

London’s The Times has published their list of the top 100 albums of the decade, and Radiohead is occupying 2 of the top three spots.

The Abingdon band’s 2000 album, Kid A, was crowned the best album of the decade.  At the time, the album had the daunting task of following the 1997 Radiohead release, OK Computer.  Critics and fans alike had regarded OK Computer as one of the best rock albums of all time.  However, fans weren’t disappointed in the least when Kid A was released on October 2, 2000.  According to the Times list, Radiohead had outdone themselves.

Singer Amy Winehouse is listed in the second position on the chart with her 2006 album, Back to Black.  Sadly, it’s Amy’s personal life that captures the media attention these days, and not her musical talents.

In the third spot is another Radiohead album.  In Rainbows, released in 2007, has not only been acclaimed for its musical quality, but has also been pivotal in commercial changes taking place in the music industry.  With the release of In Rainbows, Radiohead decided to allow their fans to decide what price they wanted to pay for the album.  The band had previously terminated their contract with their record label, and are now the masters of their own product.  They are happy to be one step closer to their fans, without any middle parties.

Here are the top 10 albums of the decade, according to The Times:

1.     Radiohead – Kid A
2.     Amy Winehouse – Back To Black
3.     Radiohead – In Rainbows
4.     Outkast – Speakerboxxx/The Love Below 5.     Britney Spears – Blackout
6.     The Strokes – Is This It
7.     Richard Hawley – Coles Corner
8.     The White Stripes – Elephant
9.     Robert Plant & Alison Krauss – Raising Sand
10.   Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid
